Meta announces the end of Facebook monetization
Social media platform Facebook is now taking strict action against users who repeatedly share other people’s content.Facebook’s parent company Meta announced on Monday that it will stop monetizing Facebook accounts that share unauthorized and duplicate content through public information.
According to Meta, if people are found to be repeatedly sharing other people’s content while sharing text, photos, videos or other content on Facebook, such behavior will be evaluated negatively. To limit such activity, Meta will take steps such as reducing the reach of such users’ Facebook posts, blocking the possibility of finding those posts, i.e. discoverability, and even stopping revenue from Facebook content.
YouTube’s lesson
It should be remembered that Meta’s decision seems to have been made following YouTube’s recently implemented policy on reused content. YouTube has previously implemented a system to stop monetization from reused content.
Meta said on the Facebook Creators Blog: If your account consistently reposts other people’s content, you will no longer be able to earn money from that content. We will now focus on originality.
As part of its policy to encourage creativity and original contributions, Meta says that independent and original content will now be prioritized on Facebook.
How duplicate content is detected
According to Meta, Facebook will now use AI systems and content matching technology to evaluate the originality of content shared on the platform. If a content has already been uploaded by someone else and there is no new contribution from the latter user, it will now be considered a repost.
Therefore, Facebook will now be tough on pages or accounts that continuously share other people’s posts, videos or images on their walls and share content without reference or explanation.
However, Facebook will not take action against users who post content that is reused with explanations, criticism, or a new perspective, as well as reaction videos, news reviews, or critical presentations.
Meanwhile, Meta is also said to have introduced a feature called ‘Link to Original’ in testing. This will allow users to send links to the original source of any reposted content. This feature of Facebook is said to be part of the company’s long-term plan to recognize the real creator.
According to analysts, after the implementation of this new policy of Meta, users who create original and creative content on Facebook will now get priority, while the tendency to earn money by relying on fake or repeated content will be controlled. It is said that Meta’s decision is likely to have a positive impact in the competitive and advertising-centric social media market.
