What happens to Facebook and Google accounts after death ?

Kathmandu. A large part of our lives has now become digital. Whether it is pictures shared on Facebook or Instagram reels, and Twitter discussions or WhatsApp messages, all of these have become part of our digital world. But what happens to all these social media accounts that we use after our death? Perhaps we have not thought about it. Do our social media accounts end with the end of our lives or do they remain as countless memories?

What happens to a Google account after a person dies?
Google or any other company does not have any such tool through which information can be obtained immediately after the death of a person. If a Google account is not active for a long time or if Google Maps, Gmail, Google Drive or Search etc. are not used through an account for a long time, then Google keeps such an account in the list of inactive accounts.

In this case, Google considers the owner of the Google account to be dead. However, Google also has a feature through which users can transfer rights to various digital data in their Google account after their death.

For this, Google has an AETA feature. Through which you can decide who will handle your data after your death or who will be able to use your Gmail and other accounts.

This feature of Google can be used by going to myaccount.google.com/inactive.

A maximum time of 18 months can be set in this. In this case, if no Google account is opened for 18 months, then the user can log in to your Google account with whom the password is shared through myaccount.google.com/inactive.

By opening the link, you will have to enter the email ID and phone number of the person to whom you want to transfer your account. Google provides the option to add the names of up to 10 people as a will.

What happens to a Facebook account after death?
Facebook also has a similar feature, which is called legacy contact. Through this feature, you can transfer your Facebook account to your family member or a friend as a legacy.

The person you choose can manage your Facebook account even after your death. However, such a person can only do things like update the profile picture, cover photo and respond to friend requests from friends. He cannot read the private messages of the real account holder.
