Trump said: Elon Musk wants to buy TikTok, I’m ready to help

Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has said that he is ready to support billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk if he wants to buy TikTok. Trump responded to reporters at an event held at the White House on Tuesday that he would support Musk if he wanted to buy TikTok.

The law requiring the sale of TikTok from Chinese ownership due to national security concerns took effect in the US on Sunday. Before the law took effect, more than 170 million American users of TikTok were unable to access the app for some time. The app opened shortly after newly elected President Trump officially took office on January 20.

According to Bloomberg, Chinese officials had discussed selling TikTok’s US operations to Musk. However, the company has rejected such a plan. Trump signed an executive order on Monday, postponing the implementation of the law by 75 days.

Trump told reporters, “If he (Musk) wants to buy TikTok, I am ready. I have met with the big owners of TikTok. “I think someone should buy TikTok and give half of it to the United States.”

Free speech advocates have opposed the law, which was passed by the US Congress and signed by President Joe Biden. TikTok has claimed that US officials have misrepresented its relationship with China. According to the company, its recommendation engine and user data are stored in the US on cloud servers operated by Oracle.

Musk has previously commented on the imbalance between the Chinese market and the US market. He said, “I have long been against banning TikTok. Because it goes against freedom of expression.”

However, he said that allowing TikTok to operate in the US while China does not allow the US app to operate is unbalanced.
